The Seven Energies

Yellow

Primary attribute: joy, happiness

Other attributes: intellect, warmth, humor, positive self-identity

Yellow is the energy of joy, lightness, and fun. We have moved from celebration to freely playing: growing our uniqueness through spontaneous expression. This of course is the task of children, but it need not ever stop. Building self-identity and self-appreciation through free expression is a perpetual responsibility of a human on earth.

In the evolutionary framework the transition from orange to yellow means abandoning the formality of orange; replacing it with impulsive and unconstrained expression. The group identity of orange gives way to individuality.

Yellow music is light and lively, with regular rhythms and simple harmonies. It is totally accessible: no mysteriousness, nothing ponderous or deep.

The dark form of yellow represents a lack of joy.

Relevant composer: W. A. Mozart. Mozart is the epitome of the light-hearted composer. Most of his music reflects a joyous soul. His antics, his gregarious nature as a child and teenager kept him at the center of attention, and even when he performed for distinguished personalities throughout Europe he did it with a flourish. Only in his later years, i.e. after about age 30, did his mood and his music become more serious, especially his great choral works.
